No Crystal Ball

Some days
ain’t worth the trouble
some troubles
are worth every
day you have to give.

Without a crystal ball
the only way to see
which it’s going to be
is to get out of
bed and live

Woo to the Hoo

Well I’ve been down in a deep dark cave
but I crawled back to the light of day
still cold and dirty but I’m gettin’ warm
scarin’ me now will take more than a storm

the buzz-killers all say, “hell to the no”
they have a ride waiting
but they won’t go
but the sun is shining and the sky is blue
hop in, baby
let’s woo to the hoo

you can beat yourself up
you can bring yourself down
you can drag your blues all over town
or you can say, “what the Hell”
let’s enjoy the trip
dig in your spurs and shoot from the hip

I can almost hear the fiddles playin
feeling this good is almost like prayin’
tomorrow I might be back in the ditch
but today I’m gonna scratch that itch

the buzz-killers all say, “hell to the no”
they have a ride waiting
but they won’t go
but the sun is shining and the sky is blue
hop in, baby
let’s woo to the hoo
hop in, baby
let’s woo to the hoo

Tuesday Morning

Some days I feel kind of funny
some days I don’t feel much at all
some days I’m riding with the top down
some days I beat my head on the wall

In an instant
happy turns into sad
in the blink of an eye
gloom goes to glad

so when there’s nothing to do
with today but get through it
find a little something to do
and go do it
in the long run
it won’t matter much
in the long run
it’s the only thing that does

No Warrior

He washes a plate and a frying pan
he washes a fork and knife
he washes his face, he washes his hands
and settles down for the night
trying to get his head around
the bad news of the day
mind blown by the numbers
of people who need him to pray
and how with a snap of God’s fingers
so many things are shattered
and for each of us at a given time
there is just one life that matters.

He never felt like a warrior
not qualified for the task
but they must really need it
or they wouldn’t ask
So as he lays him down to sleep
he prays the Lord their souls to keep
it may seem too simple
but it’s the bottom line
I’ll pray for yours
 you can pray for mine

Watching the game from the sidelines
watching the boats from the shore
watching cars go by from the infield
in the audience cheering for more

I’ve played the game, I’ve sailed the boat
I’ve driven those lost highways
being on the stage was once the rage
but those were other days

Can’t say I’ve learned the lessons
there are mysteries still unknown
don’t even know if it’s halftime
or if the checkered flag has flown

so I’ll keep walking and watching
though I’ve slowed down to a stroll
one thing I can say for sure
the journey is the goal

It’s best to pursue Happiness
at a very leisurely pace
that fickle creature may come to you
if it does not feel chased

you cannot bind it to you.
like Love, it must be free
if you want to reap the bounty
you first must sow the seeds

Exercising patience
is often mistaken
for doing nothing
but don’t be fooled
discipline and restraint
are hard to cultivate
in a world gone mad
with ineffective action

You can wear yourself out
preparing for every eventuality
but it’s the one you didn’t think of
that will ambush you
with extreme prejudice
better to wait watchfully
as God’s plan unfolds
ready to do what you must
when the time is ripe.
